Over 8 sessions, join Dana Chapman for an extended exploration of spaciousness.  We will meet once a month to explore not only how creating space in the body, breath, and mind improves our lived experience but also how creating boundaries and opening up space in our lives—for our own nourishment and development—is critical for personal fulfillment and the cultivation of internal peace.

Combining tools from yoga therapy (e.g restorative poses and gentle flows, breathing practices, meditation) as well as time for self-reflection and deep relaxation, we will create a unique experience that will be both nourishing in the moment and will also inspire your personal practice at home.

Each evening you will receive a handout so that you can go deeper between sessions.

Meet Dana Chapman was a classroom teacher with the Toronto District School Board for more than twelve years, a seconded teacher at the Jackman Institute of Child Study, and has completed her Masters of Education.  A disciplined daily yoga practice has inspired and supported her work with children and adults and has lead naturally into the study of Holistic Nutrition, Reiki, Yoga, and Yoga Therapy. Dana completed her Children’s Yoga Teacher training through The Yoga Tree and her Yoga Teacher training and Yoga Therapist designation through Yoga Therapy Toronto. Combining the worlds of education and Yoga has become a passion. She has created a comprehensive Kids’ Yoga Teacher Training for yoga teachers and classroom teachers and runs an annual programme called Classroom Heartbeat: A Year of Mindfulness for teachers and parents who are looking to explore how their exploration of mindfulness, wellness, and balance has ripple effects into their relationships with children. It is her honour to work with people of all ages as they seek to improve their experience of life, to shift patterns, and to heal.

8 Week Pre-registered Series

Wednesdays 11:00am - 12:00pm

Fall:  October 23 to December 11, 2019

Winter:  January 15 to March 4, 2020

In this weekly meditation group, we will touch on a range of meditation and mindfulness techniques, inspired by the combined traditional Eastern lineages of Yoga and Buddhist practices along with contemporary Western approaches such as MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction).

We will explore methods to cultivate moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness, through guided meditation, breath work, visualizations, and at times and (where personally appropriate) gentle passive yoga postures.  We are training the mind for presence, openness, flexibility, and acceptance.  Through the compassionate commitment of a consistent practice supported by the communal group experience, we will discover ways to more effectively cope with the challenges of life while creating more ease and peace from the inside out.

All levels are welcome and the practices will be suitable for new/beginning students of meditation. These 60 min sessions will include multiple “sits” with breaks for discussion. You will have opportunities to stretch and move in between the meditations.

The studio is equipped with lots of props (bolsters, blankets, blocks, chairs) and you are welcome to use whatever you need to best support your body for the practice - including lying down. Sitting upright is not a requirement for this practice, although I am more than happy to work with you one on one to find your ideal supported “seat”. Please wear comfortable clothing that is neither too tight or restrictive.   I would also recommend bringing a personal notebook or journal to take notes, jot down reflections and/or inspirations.

Although sleep is a part of everyday life, many people continue to experience feelings of exhaustion and unresolved anxiety in their waking lives.

Enter Yoga Nidra—the ultimate practice of healing ourselves through the simplicity of conscious rest.

A combination of restorative yoga, guided meditation and intention setting, Yoga Nidra is a progressive process of deep relaxation and down regulation for the nervous system, the mind and the heart. Through a withdrawal of the senses from the external to the internal and by way of guided visualizations, you will experience a clarity of personal intention and a broadening of your capacity for inner awareness. When we are able to experience complete relaxation while maintaining consciousness, the frequency of our brain waves slows to a rhythm parallel to that of when we are dreaming. The result is a fertile inner landscape primed for the planting of conscious seeds of intention and desire.

It is said that one session of yoga nidra is comparable to approximately 3 hours of deep sleep in its ability to rejuvenate and restore equilibrium.

An accessible practice for all bodies and levels of experience - all that is required is the desire to rediscover your own innate wholeness. Ideal for those suffering from sleep disturbance; seeking stress-reduction or a meditation practice that can be experienced in a supine (reclined or lying down) position.

Practicing meditation has been shown to have many physical, mental and emotional benefits. These include lowering blood pressure, improving breathing and heart rate as well as boosting energy and immunity. Meditation can help increase mental focus, self-awareness & self-acceptance, reduce physical and mental stress and promote happiness and overall well-being.

This four-week series is designed to teach you the basic principles of mindfulness in order to discover and establish a personal meditation practice. We will explore different ways to set up your ‘seat’ (including the use of props and/or a chair) to create and facilitate ease in your body; you will be taught a variety of methods to focus the mind in the present moment, including using internal and external objects of anchored awareness, using the breath, bodily sensations, mantra and visual points of focus.
